Kansas City is thinking about fixing up Arrowhead Stadium. That’s the Kansas City Chiefs’ home. They’re thinking about doing this by using a 40-year tax plan. This plan would get more money by starting a new sales tax. This one would last until 2064. Right now, our current sales tax will end in 2031. We don’t know how much this project will cost. But, we think this new tax would make us about $200 million.
Fans might like the idea of updating the stadium. But some people worry about how long this tax plan is. Also, they’re worried because there isn’t a detailed plan yet. Some people think this could be on purpose, because the team has been doing really well recently, thanks to popular quarterback Patrick Mahomes. But, others think this goes against Republican beliefs of spending less and lowering taxes.
We don’t know yet if this proposal will pass. But it leaves a tough choice for locals. They have to decide between better stadium features and the possibility of paying higher taxes for a long time. At the end of the day, what happens with the Arrowhead Stadium repairs will come down to the vote.
